Gift of Sight

The Gift of Sight program sends eye care teams to underserved communities across the globe to help fight blindness and rebuild lives. Cataract disease affects millions of individuals around the world, but also impacts entire families, given that the people afflicted with the disease cannot take care of themselves and depend on the help of their family. Cataract surgery can restore vision and independence to an individual.

In 2010, Humanity First Guatemala collaborated with Humanity First USA to initiate the annual Gift of Sight eye camp in Guatemala. The team of medical volunteers from the US and Guatemala perform free cataract surgeries and full eye exams, and provide medications, post-operational care and prescription eyeglasses. Humanity First’s medical team has performed cataract surgeries of varying degrees of complexity, as well as donated many prescription eye glasses in San Juan Sacatepéquez and Chichicastenango, both areas of extreme poverty that lack access to basic medical care.

Cost per patient: $ 100.00 USD
