Who Are We?

Humanity First began formally as a registered charity in 1994 in the United Kingdom. Since inception, Humanity First has responded to several disasters and served hundreds of thousands of victims in various affected communities. The organization’s scope of operations soon expanded beyond disaster relief to several sustainable human development projects and initiatives around the world.
Around 2000, Humanity First began to focus on longer term projects around health care, education, vocational training, water and orphans. At the same time, Humanity First began to grow its organic operations across sub-Saharan Africa, northern Latin America, Europe and the Caribbean, South Asia and Australasia.
In 2010, Humanity First Guatemala was established under the direction of Executive Director David Gonzalez and Chairman Abdul Sattar Khan with a local team of dedicated volunteers. In four years, Humanity First Guatemala has continued to meet and exceed goals and expectations to decrease the suffering and extreme poverty of Guatemalan families. Through support services such as disaster relief assistance, human development project, medical screenings and treatments, and educational programs, Humanity First has been able to build and strengthen the capacity for thousands of Guatemalans.

Our Approach

Humanity First Guatemala’s mission is to serve disaster and social disadvantage individuals and families in the poorest and forgotten Guatemalan communities. We aim to:

  • Relieve the suffering caused by natural disasters and human conflict
  • Promote peace, understanding based on mutual tolerance and respect
  • Strengthen people’s capacity to benefit themselves and their families.

Our Background & History

Humanity First began as a registered charity in 1995 in the United Kingdom. Humanity First responded to several disasters and served hundreds of thousands of victims in various affected communities. The organization’s scope of operations soon expanded beyond disaster relief to several sustainable human development projects and initiatives around the world. In two decades, Humanity First has become an international aid and nonprofit organization that regularly works together with many other international agencies such as the Red Cross, Oxfam, Save the Children and more. Humanity First also has special consultative status with the ECOSOC and UN Social.

Humanity First is now registered in 41 countries on 6 continents, working in human development projects and responding to natural disasters across the world. Our organization has provided emergency relief in disasters including earthquakes in Turkey, Pakistan, Japan, Iran and Haiti, floods in Africa and Latin and America, storms and tsunamis in the United States, Bangladesh, Indonesia and Japan, as well as conflicts in Eastern Europe. Water wells, hospitals, schools, and training centers in several African countries have been built to benefit thousands of individuals. More than 90% of funds raised are directed towards these humanitarian aid programs – the greatest source of help is the selfless Humanity First volunteers of all backgrounds and professions who contribute their expertise and time to aid those in need.
